On behalf of BLUE Missions, we would like to thank you for showing interest in being a Service Trip Chaperone. Chaperones play a key role in facilitating a life-changing experience for each and every one of our service trip participants. Each day you will be waking up before the sun, hiking through unbelievable landscapes, mentoring high school students, working alongside of your group and the community and enforcing the BLUE rules to all participants. There will be times where you will laugh until you cry, fall in love with entire communities, and build bonds with new people you never expected could impact you so profoundly in such a short time. RESPONSIBILITES

As a chaperone you will be with our US Staff and volunteers in preparation for your BLUE Trip. In the Dominican Republic, you will work alongside host-community members, our Dominican Staff, US Trip Leaders, and volunteers in the execution of our projects. You will work directly under our Trip Leaders to facilitate disconnection, immersive experiences, and exercises of reflection. Prior to arriving on the field, you will participate in a mandatory Chaperone Workshop covering all relevant topics: 

  • Promote available spots on your service trip to your local community

  • Communicate important pre-trip tasks to volunteers including the fundraising of the Community Contribution Fee

  • Connect volunteers and/or parents with BLUE Staff member regarding questions about their fundraising page and/or service trip preparation 

  • Lead volunteers through airport on departure and return date

  • Liaison between the volunteers and BLUE Missions staff

  • Assist in the scheduling daily work groups

  • Provide leadership and guidance to participating volunteers

  • Bridge the culture gap between the volunteers and the community

  • Enforce BLUE rules and safety guidelines to participating volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading and/or working with students

  • You're inspired to change the world and work with high school students

  • You want to live the BLUE Experience

  • You have the ability to problem solve independently and have a strong self-initiative

  • You have strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • 25 - 60 years old

  • Subject to background check

  • Must visit a doctor/physician to complete our physical examination form

  • Must become first-aid & CPR certified by the American Red Cross by May 1, 2024

requirements

  • Chaperone fee of $650 covering:

    • Airfare (roundtrip from Miami to Dominican Republic)

    • In-country transportation

    • Lodging and most meals

    • Travel insurance

  • Must participate in workshop training prior to the summer of 2024

  • All applications to be a Service Trip Chaperone will be evaluated internally. Submission of an application does not guarantee that you will be selected. There is a $50 application fee. If you are not selected, the application fee will be refunded.

  • During the selection process, our team will schedule an in person or Skype interview with you in early 2024. After the interview, our team will take a few weeks to review and select our 2024 class of chaperones by March 2024. You will be notified via email if you have been accepted or not accepted for the position.

  • Once you receive acceptance, your payment plan for the chaperone fee will go into effect.
